In late May, the Equality Fund and the New Commonwealth Fund hosted a conversation at the Boston Foundation with Rev. Irene Monroe, theologian and syndicated columnist, and Rev. Brandon Thomas Crowley, pastor, on the subject of his new book, “Queering Black Churches: Dismantling Heteronormativity in African American Congregations.” The talk was moderated by pastor and former journalist Rev. Liz Walker, and more than 130 people participated in the event—including Equality Fund Advisory Committee Members Cheryl Katon and Derrick Young Jr. Opening remarks were made by the Theater Offensive’s Executive Director Giselle Byrd, and the evening included a musical performance by Living Water.
