For the second year in a row, a contingent of Newport Pride dusted off their blow-up leprechaun riding a rainbow unicorn and marched in the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Members of the Salve Regina University LGBTQIA+ group joined them in inflatable shark and unicorn costumes, delighting younger patrons of the parade. While most of the community welcomed them with open arms, there were some instances of bigotry and intolerance they could not ignore. However, they said, the vast majority was welcoming and accepting. “It’s a reminder that our fight for equality and acceptance is far from over.
