Across New England and around the world, people are observing International Transgender Day of Visibility today, March 31. Here in Massachusetts, you can support our transgender friends and neighbors by visiting the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, Trans Resistance MA and Transgender Emergency Fund of Massachusetts websites.

Meantime, communities like Belmont, Massachusetts — thanks to the work of the Belmont LGBTQ+ Alliance and community allies — are leading the way with initiatives like their own “Belmont Celebrates Trans Day of Visibility” public exhibition and events:

To celebrate March 31, Trans day of Visibility, the LGBTQ Alliance of Belmont, together with our middle school and high school GSAs, have mounted a display of prominent trans individuals. The display is located in Belmont center, on Leonard St., right in the center of town. The display is up through April 2nd.

On March 31, we will gather at the display at 3:30, to celebrate these individuals by reading their names and accomplishments, and playing some of their music.

In addition, there will be a showing of “No Ordinary Man,” a documentary of the life of jazz musician Billy Tipson. The film, which is cosponsored by the Belmont Public Library, will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on March 31, in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Library, 336 Concord Ave.
