The Pride flag has flown over Pittsfield’s City Hall every June since 2017 and was accompanied by the first ever Pride Kick Off event in 2019 with the adoption of the Progress Pride Flag. This year, when Mayor Linda Tyer and Berkshire Pride raised the Progress Flag, the city of Pittsfield proclaimed June Pride Month and dedicated it to the memory of Jahaira DeAlto “and all of our transgender, gender nonconforming, and gender nonbinary neighbors who we have lost to violence.” DeAlto, who moved to Boston, where she carried on her work as a community leader, was a founder of Berkshire Transgender Day of Remembrance and the Berkshire Pride Festival.
