AIDS Action’s 22nd Annual Bayard Rustin Community Breakfast was held on Saturday May 14 at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury. This year’s Keynote Speaker and recipient of the Belynda Dunn Award of Recognition was Pernessa Seele, CEO and founder of Balm in Gilead, Inc., a religious-based organization that provides support to people with AIDS and their families, as well as working for prevention of HIV and AIDS. Long time AIDS Activist, former AIDS Action board chair, social worker, educator and one of the original planners of the breakfast, Gary Bailey, received the Bayard Rustin Award for Courage. The crowd was treated to musical performances by Phillip Woods, ‘nDgroove, Tangela Bell and a stepping performance by the brothers of Delta Phi Upsion, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for gay men of color.
