Mass. State Rep. Jack Patrick Lewis of Framingham was honored with the “Trans Community Ally Award” from the Trans Community of New England (TCNE) on January 27, 2023.
“It was a great honor to receive the “Trans Community Ally Award” from The Trans Community of New England,” said Rep. Lewis in a statement to the press, released from his office on March 30.
“With efforts across the country to harm and bully the transgender community, notably trans youth, our Commonwealth must be a beacon of diversity and a refuge of hope for not only our transgender neighbors but also others around the country who must now seek life-saving care and support here,” Lewis said.
TCNE conferred the award to Lewis during their 42nd annual First Event Conference for transgender and gender nonconforming people and those who love and support them. The event was held over five days at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston with more than 1,000 participants from New England and across the country, and over 150 educational workshops and talks, an LGBTQ job fair hosted by the Mass. LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce and a vendor room with over 30 vendors. Evening events included a fashion show, musical and comedy entertainment, poetry and Athena West’s Love Ball.
TCNE is a Boston-area transgender support organization. TCNE has offered transgender social activities and support since the 1970s, and is one of the oldest transgender groups in the world, along with being one of the very few with their own permanent location.
