The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition has received a $100,000 Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Grant from the Mass. Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development. The funds will support MTPC’s Trans Leadership Academy.
The grant comes as part of the state’s new program, announced earlier this month, that is awarding $20 million to 62 organizations.
“Certain communities face unique challenges but also have the local assets and expertise to develop solutions,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “By using this program to tap directly into those resources, we can position these trusted organizations for success in their efforts to strengthen their communities from within.”
Says MTPC in their announcement:
This program will develop a new generation of intersectional and multigenerational transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive (TNBGE) leaders, work to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline for TNBGE people, and create new opportunities for TNBGE people in employment and education. The primary means to accomplish these goals are workforce development, community support, mentoring and training, and material and financial support. We will be partnering with Black & Pink MA and the Transgender Emergency Fund to develop and run this program.
