The Boston Celtics will honor Boston Gay Basketball League’s own Marc Davino with the team’s Heroes Among Us Award at this Thursday’s Pride Night game, when the Celtics host the Phoenix Suns.
A long-time supporter of all LGBTQ sports in Boston, Davino has played all 26 seasons of the Boston Gay Basketball League, where he was also a founding member, and is a Hall of Famer in both Boston’s league and the National Gay Basketball League. He’s also known for his work at Victory Programs, where he served as vice president of development and communications from 2011 to 2019, and for his volunteering.
Boston Celtics Pride Night begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 22, at TD Garden. Highlights include the playing of a PSA during the game; a recording made specially for the occasion by the Boston Gay Mens Chorus singing the National Anthem; and elements of the game featuring the Pride Flag and the Celtics Pride logo. Plus there’s a custom Pride Night ticket design. And the Celtics are partnering with Waltham House to host kids in a “virtual fan tunnel experience.”
Tickets are very limited due to the ongoing pandemic, but a few may still be available on the Boston Celtics ticketing web page.
The Heroes Among Us program is one of the premier community outreach programs in professional sports. Established as an initiative of the Boston Celtics in 1997, Heroes Among Us honors individuals who have made an overwhelming impact on the lives of others.
The Award is presented to an individual or individuals who, through their unique commitment and humanitarian spirit, have made exceptional and lasting contributions to our community. At every home game, the Celtics and their fans have saluted the exemplary efforts of these citizens during a special in-game presentation on the legendary parquet floor.
