Pride Portland has canceled it parade and festival in Portland, Maine for 2020, which had previously been scheduled for June 20. Organizers had hoped to moved it to late August but announced in an update today their decision to cancel the large public gathering out of concerns for social distancing.
The update reads as follows:
We have been monitoring the COVID-19 global pandemic situation closely and in consideration of the state-wide mandate currently banning social gatherings of over fifty people for the foreseeable future, we have decided to cancel the in-person pride parade and festival in Portland for 2020.
Although we may not be able to gather in person, Pride Portland! and several other pride organizations throughout the state of Maine are coming together to find ways for all of us to celebrate together and connect to show our pride. Please stay tuned to our FaceBook page or website (www.prideportland.org) for events and updates as they come.
