“New Hampshire celebrates Pride every day. But it’s also important to look out for each other and our communities.” reads a recent Facebook posting by Seacoast Outright, the organization that puts on Portsmouth, New Hampshire’s annual celebration, originally scheduled to begin on June 27.
And so taking precautions against the spread of COVID-19, Seacoast Outright has rescheduled Portsmouth’s Pride 2020, now celebrating its sixth year, until this fall.
The new date is October 10.
“This decision certainly wasn’t easy,” the organization’s director, Hershey Hirschkop, told Patch Concord, NH. “But we are committed to the people we serve, the communities around the Seacoast area, and the City of Portsmouth. Pride is our largest fundraiser of the year and most public effort to shine a light on our programs but it’s important to ensure the well-being and health of our entire community including attendees, residents, artists, vendors, volunteers, and staff.”
The “youth-focused, family-friendly, community-wide celebration” traditionally includes a march—to be organized this year in a colorful rainbow formation— starting at Market Square, rolling along through downtown Portsmouth and winding up at the Strawbery Banke Museum. Festivities continue at the Pride Marketplace, featuring nonprofit organization booths and family-friendly vendors, speakers and entertainment.
