The LGBTQ Victory Fund, the national nonprofit dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office, has just endorsed Jordan Meehan—currently the policy coordinator for the Bay State’s Commission on LGBTQ Youth—for state representative in Massachusetts.

If elected, Meehan would become the youngest openly LGBTQ member of the Massachusetts state legislature, according to an April 21 Victory Fund statement to the press.

“With Jordan’s record of fighting for LGBTQ youth in Massachusetts, we are confident he will bring needed urgency to the legislature and be a vital LGBTQ voice,” said Victory Fund’s President and CEO Mayor Annise Parker.

“I am so grateful to have the support of the LGBTQ Victory Fund,” said Meehan.

“As a young gay man who works in LGBTQ youth advocacy, I know the importance of equitable representation. While Massachusetts can proudly boast a long history of acceptance, we still have a long way to go to eliminate critical disparities facing the LGBTQ community, from housing to health care to criminal justice and much more. Victory Fund has supported many LGBTQ elected officials that I have long admired and looked up to, and I am incredibly happy to have them in my corner,” Meehan said.

As described in the state’s website:

Jordan has a deep background in public service, having interned with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts Office of Senate Counsel, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the U.S. Navy JAG Corps. Jordan earned his undergraduate degree from George Washington University and his Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School, where he served as the Lead Articles Editor for the Journal of Health and Biomedical Law and the Community Outreach Coordinator for Queer Law Alliance. When he is not working, Jordan is active in community organizing and advocacy in the areas of environmentalism, climate change, and transit.

Notes the Victory Fund release:

LGBTQ people make up only 0.15% of all elected officials in the country, despite representing at least 4.5% of the U.S. population. As an openly LGBTQ leader, Meehan will be an unwavering voice for equality in the state legislature. His priorities include housing justice, transit equity, and a Green New Deal for Massachusetts.

Victory Fund will promote Meehan’s endorsement among its hundreds of thousands of supporters nationwide. More information about Victory Fund can be found at victoryfund.org. Meehan is running for State Representative in the 17th Suffolk district against incumbent Rep. Kevin Honan. The district covers half of Allston-Brighton in Boston.
