After three years of leadership and service, Greater Boston PFLAG‘s executive director, Val Frias, is leaving the organization to become the CEO of the elderly and disabled home and community-based care nonprofit Ethos. Frias’s last day at PFLAG will be August 16, according to a PFLAG press release:

During her tenure, we successfully fought for transgender rights, defended a roll-back referendum on those rights, won passage of the conversion therapy ban and have seen a surge of parents of transgender/non-binary children utilizing our support services. Demand for our educational programming at schools and businesses has never been greater and we’re very proud to have developed partnerships with the Department of Children & Families to educate and support foster parents and with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston.

We’re fortunate to have a very dedicated and talented staff who remain committed to delivering high quality programming and see to the day to day operations through this transition period. In addition, the Board is working closely with Val on interim management plans and have already begun our search for longer term leadership. With the success of our most recent Pride & Passion fundraiser, and the commitment of our sponsors and donors, the organization’s financial picture is strong and we are well positioned to plan thoughtfully about how we continue to deliver high quality support, programming and advocacy today and well into the future.

During this transition period, we want to emphasize how truly grateful we are for the dedication and support of parent group facilitators and volunteers who are the cornerstone of GBPFLAG’s 41 year history of success. With change comes opportunity and we couldn’t be more excited about the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead!

Please join us in thanking Val for her dedication on behalf Greater Boston PFLAG and in wishing her continued success in her new career.

We will continue to communicate updates as our search evolves, so please look out for more communication in the coming weeks and feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
