Funds raised at Outright Vermont’s 21st annual fire truck pull blew past the LGBTQ+ youth support and advocacy nonprofit’s goal of hauling in $200K this past Saturday when nearly 20 teams tugged a heavy Burlington Fire Department vehicle across the Church Street Marketplace.

“This event is 100% about the community coming together, showing up, reclaiming these streets with queer joy, and making sure young people know that they’ve got so many folks that are pulling for them,” said Dana Kaplan, the executive director of Outright Vermont.
Kaplan went on to say Outright’s large team of supporters worked together to smash the event’s $200,000 fundraising goal.
Calypso Torn, 18, said she moved to Burlington without many connections. Furthermore, she said a disability left her often feeling isolated. However, she said Outright helped her build community and friendships through social groups.
“I think Outright is more than just an organization,” Torn said. “I think Outright is the people. And I think that no matter who you are or where you’re from, they really tend to step in and give you that sense of belonging and acceptance and support.”
