At a recent Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce roundtable, the Bay State’s Economic Development Secretary, Yvonne Hao, touted Governor Healey’s Administration’s efforts to expand access to business financing and grants for all, including members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Hao met with about 60 chamber members and other business people at the chamber’s regional office in the Keystone Mills. Hao, who lives part time in Williamstown, started her day meeting with tech entrepreneurs in Pittsfield and later toured Northampton’s downtown to celebrate the imminent reopening of The Iron Horse.
“This is so many of the things I love all together,” Hao said of the small business entrepreneurship and working-togetherness showcased by the chamber.
She plugged the new business development plan from Gov. Maura Healey’s administration and a $3.5 billion economic development bill that the administration hopes to pass this summer. It’s billed as Team Massachusetts, and Hao wears the slogan on a rubber wristband. …
The Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce has 530 members and is growing, up from just 97 members at the end of its first year in 2018, said Thais De Marco, deputy director.
As a chamber based on affinity within the community — not geography or industry — the LGBT chamber fills a unique role.
“We have members who make soap in their basement,” she said. “And we have full-service marketing firms who do major campaigns for the state.”
