Thirty-six nonprofit organizations that serve the LGBTQ+ community in Greater Boston have received awards that total $336,000 from the Boston Foundation’s Equity Fund, whose mission is to advance LGBTQ+ equality. According to a report in Boston Business Journal, the Equity Fund has awarded 300 some grants totaling over $1.8 million since it started in 2012.
Reports BBJ:
Organizations that received grants from the Equality Fund include $12,000 to the Boston Alliance of LGBTQ Youth, $12,000 to Victory Programs Inc., and $12,000 to Fenway Health, among others.
The Equality Fund in April named M. Scott Knox as its first director. The fund is also guided by an 11-member advisory committee, composed of community and business members who work in collaboration with Knox.
The Equality Fund reviewed 55 proposals in total, and 36 were selected to receive grants, Knox said. Because the funds are not restricted, organizations can use the funding in a variety of ways to support the queer community, he said.
