Quincy’s “Q Pride Day” festival is making its comeback, live and in-person, on Sunday, June 6, from noon to 4 p.m., with food trucks, games, drag queens and more on Pageant Field. It will be the Bay State city’s third in-person Pride festival, last year’s having gone viral due to the pandemic.
“It was disappointing last year to have to cancel, but I do feel that we have a good group of board members with their own backgrounds and experience and everyone is bringing a lot to the table. We are excited to bounce back,” Richard Ash, Quincy Pride’s president, told the Patriot Ledger.
Reports The Patriot Ledger:
Roughly 2,000 people attended the second Q Pride Day festival in June 2019, and last year’s celebration was rescheduled to a virtual event due to the coronavirus pandemic. …
The group held an open meeting in March to check in with the city’s LGBTQ community.
“We were concerned with youth LGBTQ members and how they are doing at home,” Ash said. “I wish it had been better attended, but we will continue to reach out and work with whoever needs us.”
QATV will host a “Show Your Pride” program with a member of the group’s board in the next few weeks to gear up for Pride Month. Gina Christo will explain the colors of the rainbow pride flag and residents will be able to order flags through Quincy Pride to fly in June.
Drag performances featuring some of the biggest names in Provincetown and Boston, raffle items, live music and a DJ will go along with a family-friendly puppeteer and pride-themed contests this year, Ash said.
Masks are encouraged and hand-sanitizing stations will be spread out. Community nonprofit and vendor tables will be around the field.
The festival will also host the first-ever Prideful Puppy contest and will give awards for which vendor tables are the best decorated.
“It’s going to be a really fun day and we’re excited to see everyone,” Ash said.
