Last week, US Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) — top Democrat on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee on Primary Health and Retirement Security — released a new report of President Donald Trump’s discriminatory actions against the transgender community.
The report contains more than a dozen stories that describe Trump’s attacks on the transgender community, as the administration has sought to limit access to medical care, erase trans identity, and eliminate life-saving discrimination and safety protections.
The report also highlights the personal experiences of people harmed by Trump’s policies, as well as Senator Markey’s actions to support the trans community in their fight for equal rights and justice.
“Since Day One of his administration, Donald Trump has relentlessly demonized transgender people to distract from his disastrous policy agenda. The list of attacks against the trans community is a long and cruel testament to using policy to persecute, rather than protect. I’ve heard stories from trans people across the country who the Trump administration is working to erase, and whose dignity and civil rights are being blatantly and dangerously denied,” said Senator Markey.
“But the trans community is strong and resilient. They are fighting back, and I am with them every step of the way. Not Trump, not anyone, can erase trans people,” Markey said.
