Massachusetts leads New England states with 18 perfect scores on HRC’s 2026 Healthcare Equality Index

Eighteen health care facilities in the Bay State earned perfect-scores, a designation of “Healthcare Equality Leader,” on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2026 Healthcare Equality Index.

Now in its 17th annual edition, CRI’s HEI is the national LGBTQ+ benchmarking tool that evaluates health care facilities’ policies and practices related to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees.

The annual report rates health care centers based on select policies and practices central to the LGBTQ+ interests, focusing on the following criteria: 1) nondiscrimination, 2) patient services and support, 3) employee benefits and policies, 4) patient and community engagement, 5) responsible citizenship.
