The Equality Fund at the Boston Foundation is awarding $705K in grants to 42 LGBTQ+-serving organizations in the largest grantmaking slate in the Fund’s history.
“In a moment when LGBTQ+ populations continue to face the intentional and cruel erosion of their legal rights, their access to care, their housing access, and their community institutions, we are proud to be able to expand our support for LGBTQ+-led and -serving organizations this Pride Month,” said M. Scott Knox, Executive Director of the Equality Fund.
“We cannot fully heal the wounds being inflicted on millions of Americans on a daily basis by the federal administration, but we are thankful for the donors and supporters who are rallying to make a difference in a time of critical need,” Knox said.
For the 2026 cycle, grants were awarded in these priority areas:
- Legal Rights Protection, Legal Services, & Advocacy
- Decrease Social Isolation & Increase Community Building
- Safe Schools & Out of School Time Spaces
- Health Care Access
- Housing & Economic Stability
- Structural Support
The Equality Fund is pleased to note that more than two-thirds of the grants are being awarded to organizations that focus on three especially vulnerable groups: the trans community, LGBTQ+ youth and LGBTQ+ seniors. To date, the Equality Fund, through its generous donors, has made more than $3.5 million in grants, with nearly $2 million of that total coming since 2022. The Equality Fund is Massachusetts’ largest philanthropic fund exclusively dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community, guided by an Advisory Committee of LGBTQ+ community members and allies with deep knowledge of the issues affecting LGBTQ+ people today.
A total of 111 organizations applied for grants in this cycle, with a combined record of $2.3 million in expressed need, highlighting the continuing challenges facing LGBTQ+ communities in the current political and social climate.
