After a security guard at Boston’s Liberty Hotel removed a woman from a woman’s bathroom despite both she and her girlfriend repeatedly telling the guard she was indeed a woman, the hotel has conducted an investigation and released an updated statement, according to Boston.com.
Boston.com published the statement:
“The Liberty Hotel has concluded the investigation into the situation that occurred on May 3rd. We take this matter seriously and are implementing the following actions:
- The security officer is being suspended from their position immediately.
- The General Manager is reaching out to the individuals involved today.
- The hotel is conducting mandatory retraining for all staff on inclusive practices and guest interaction protocols, with a particular focus on creating a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ individuals.
- In a reaffirmation of our values, the hotel is making a donation to a local LGBTQ+ organization that we have partnered with in the past, on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), on May 17.
The Liberty Hotel is and always will be an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and a place where everyone is welcome and celebrated. We will continue to educate and train of our team to ensure that everyone feels safe and accepted within our four walls and guests who do not show tolerance and acceptance towards others will be removed.”
Boston.com goes on to report:
In its initial statement, the hotel had contradicted allegations made by Elizabeth Victor, who said her girlfriend was removed from the bathroom “despite both of (them) repeatedly stating that she is a woman.”
Also on Tuesday, Victor shared in an Instagram story that the hotel’s general manager had called them twice and apologized.
“The original statement from The Liberty Hotel was based purely on false claims from the security officer, who is now temporarily suspended,” she wrote.
Later in her story, Victor thanked people for supporting them. “Can’t tell everyone how less alone we felt after sharing yesterday,” she wrote.
