Nico Lang, author of “American Teenager: How Trans Kids Are Surviving Hate and Finding Joy in a Turbulent Era” and founder of Queer News Daily, will read from his new book and participate in a Q&A session, moderated by Boston Poet Laureate Porsha Olayiwola, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, at Just Book-ish, 1463 Dorchester Ave., in Boston

“American Teenager” documents the lives of trans teens in seven different states. “My goal was to speak back to far right, anti-trans rhetoric about youth by showing trans kids as they actually are: powerfully human,” Lang says.

Then, on Saturday, April 19, Lang joins Asa Sevelius, principal at the Roland Hayes School and BAGLY Speakers’ Bureau member, in the conversation “Finding Joy / Surviving Hate, at First Parish in Brookline, Unitarian-Universalist, at 382 Walnut St. Doors open at 1 p.m. for a resource fair, followed by the conversation, audience Q&A and book signing at 2 p.m.
