The Boston Foundation announced that the Asian Community Fund, the Equality Fund and Latino Equity Fund are each receiving a $1 million grant from the Point32Health Foundation, closing out a 2024 in which the three funds distributed a record amount in grants to nonprofit organizations, while expanding their commitments to research, convening and advocacy work on issues critical to their communities.
The grants are part of a $15 million commitment to social and racial justice over the next five years made by the Point32Health Foundations, the philanthropic arm of Point32Health and its family of companies, including Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Tufts Health Plan and Care Partners of Connecticut.
“As we prepare to open our 2025 funding cycle, we thank the Point32Health Foundation for their commitment to work that supports equity for LGBTQ+ people across the region,” said Scott Knox, Executive Director of the Equality Fund. “The LGBTQ+ leaders who founded the Equality Fund envisioned a philanthropic resource dedicated to the queer and trans community agile enough to respond to each generation’s needs. That vision feels particularly prescient as we head into the new year. Investments like these make our research, grantmaking and advocacy work possible.”
The Equality Fund at the Boston Foundation was established in 2012 to advance the equitable treatment of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) individuals and their families and support Greater Boston nonprofit organizations that serve and strengthen the LGBTQ+ community. The Equality Fund’s priorities are guided by an Advisory Committee of community members and allies who possess a depth and breadth of understanding about the most pressing issues affecting LGBTQ+ people today.
Since its inception, the Equality Fund has made more than 300 grants totaling over $2.2 million, sponsored research and brought together civic leaders and community members from across Massachusetts to advance issues of critical importance to the region’s LGBTQ+ community. The first and largest philanthropic fund exclusively dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Massachusetts. The Equality Fund is committed to investing in research, public forums and convenings, strategic partnerships, and grantmaking to nonprofit organizations that provide critical services to our diverse LGBTQ+ community.
