The Human Rights Campaign yesterday released its Congressional Scorecard, which measures support for LGBTQ+ equality in the 118th US Congress. Once again, Senators and Representatives from New England earned a near-perfect score.

Scores are based on an assessment of each Senator’s and Representative’s votes on key LGBTQ+ issues as well as their support for (or lack therefore of) LGBTQ+ communities.

“The American people deserve leaders who rise above divide-and-conquer politics and keep the country moving forward,” said Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson. “Leadership matters; and we are proud to stand with the Members of Congress who fought back against anti-LGBTQ+ attacks and worked to advance freedom and equality for all.”

Here’s how Congressional leaders from New England fared:

Connecticut

Senators Richard Blumenthal and Christopher Murphy, both Democrats, received perfect 100s. And the state’s Congress members John Larson, Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, Jim Hims and Jahana Hayes, all Democrats, also earned perfect scores.

Maine

Independent Senator Angus King received a 93, and Republican Senator Susan Collins a 58. Congress members Charlie Pingree and Jared Golden, both Democrats, received perfect 100s.

Massachusetts

Senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren, both Democrats, earned perfect 100s. Congress members Richard Neal, James McGowan, Lori Trahan, Jake Auchincloss, Katherine Clark, Stephen Lynch, Set Moulton, Ayanna Presley and Bill Keating, all Democrats, also received perfect scores.

New Hampshire

Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen, both Democrats, earned perfect 100s. Both Democratic Congress members Chris Pappas and Ann McLane Custer also received 100s.

Rhode Island

Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, both Democrats, earned perfect 100s. Democratic Congressman Seth Magaziner also received a perfect score. (US Rep. Gabe Amo, a Democrat sworn in on June 25 to fill a vacancy, was not in office long enough to be scored this year.)

Vermont

Senators Bernie Sanders and Peter Welch, both Democrats, earned perfect 100s, as did Congresswoman Becca Balint.
