Massachusetts held its primary election for statewide officials and Congressional candidates last Tuesday, and all openly LGBTQ+ incumbent candidates won their races and now move on to the Nov. 5 election.

After yesterday’s results, incumbent Senator William Brownsberger (D, Suffolk and Middlesex District, advances to the Nov. 5 General Election. Brownsberger is the only pansexual person in the Bay State legislature.

Also advancing to the Nov. 5 General Election are Senate incumbents Jo Comerford (D, Hampshire, Franklin and Worcester District) and Julian Cyr (D, Cape and Islands District). Cyr serves as Senate Assistant Majority Whip and on many committees, including chair of the joint committee on public health.

Non-incumbent Erin Bradley (D, Norfolk, Plymouth and Bristol District) also advanced to the Nov. 5 General Election for a seat in the State Senate. Bradley was the first out LGBTQ+ member of the Milton, Massachusetts Select Board.

Over in the State House of Representatives, incumbent State Rep. Natalie Higgins (D, Incumbent, District 4-Worcester) advanced to the Nov. 5 General Election. Higgins is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ Caucus and cochairs the Sexual Violence Working Group of the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators and other committees.

Also advancing to the Nov. 5 General Election are incumbent State Rep. Kate Hogan (D, District 3-Middlesex), Adam Scanlon (D, Incumbent, District 14-Bristol), John Moran (D, District 9-Suffolk District), Thomas Moakley (D, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket District) and Jack Patrick Lewis (D, District 7-Middlesex). A champion of LGBTQ+ rights and the rights of all Bay Staters on Beacon Hill, Lewis is also a cofounder of the LGBTQ+ youth advocacy nonprofit OUT MetroWest.

Non-incumbent Sam Montaño (D, Incumbent, District 15-Suffolk) also advances to the Nov. 5 primary.

Over in Cambridge, non-incumbent Evan MacKay’s (D, District 25-Middlesex) race was still too close to call, and his campaign says they’re requesting a recall.

And over in Fairhaven, Andrew Romano (I), was elected to become the only out LGBTQ+ person on his town’s Select Board.
