After the first week of Pride celebrations in Worcester, Mass., starting with a flag-raising over City Hall, an estimated 6,000 LGBTQ+ and allied folks came out for the big event: a Pride festival this past Saturday, and the festivities spilled right on through Sunday evening and continue til Friday.

Drag performances, singing, dancing, food and lots and lots of rainbows.
The Pride Worcester Festival brought thousands to downtown Worcester Saturday, according to organizers.
Kids played with huge bubble wands and jumped in bouncy houses, groups walked the streets offering “Free Mom Hugs,” multiple drag performances featured family members of the performers and representatives of community resource groups set up next to vendors plying LGBTQ+ themed merchandise.
“I think we’re definitely growing every year. We had pretty much all of downtown blocked off,” said Katherine Aguilar, Pride Worcester’s administrative executive.
Skies threatening thunderstorms shut down the festivities before the planned closing time of 7 p.m., but Aguilar said she was pleased with the turnout, which she estimated to be about 6,000.
She said the event brought “queer joy to the city,” and praised the performers and speakers.
