For their 24th annual Spirit of Justice Award Dinner, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) will honor the plaintiffs who won the landmark Goodridge ruling that made Massachusetts the first state in the country where same-sex couples could legally marry.
The event takes place on Thursday, November 9, in Downtown Boston. The reception begins at 6 p.m. with the dinner and speaking program starting at 7 p.m. followed by drinks and dessert at 9 p.m. Tickets and details at glad.org/events/2023soj/.

As we celebrate 20 years of Goodridge and marriage equality, we are thrilled to honor the plaintiffs who made it possible. Together, they propelled a movement for empathy, understanding, and legal equality for LGBTQ+ people and our families that went all the way to the Supreme Court, and the White House.
We celebrate this landmark victory for marriage equality against the backdrop of increasingly hostile efforts by our opponents to target our community and roll back our hard-won rights. The Supreme Court showed a willingness to ignore decades of precedent when they overturned Roe v. Wade and Justices Thomas and Alito have made no secret that they think marriage equality should be next.
Honorees include Gloria Bailey-Davies, Linda Bailey-Davies, Edward Balmelli, Maureen Brodoff, Gary Chalmers, Rob Compton, Hillary Goodridge, Julie Goodridge, Michael Horgan, Richard Linnell, Gina Nortonsmith, Heidi Nortonsmith, Ellen Wade and David Wilson.
