A protest against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester’s recently announced anti-LGBTQ school policy will take place this evening, Wed., Aug. 23, at the Diocese Chancery on the corner of Elm and Linden streets (49 Elm Street, Worcester).
The protest will begin at 6 p.m., according to an Instagram post by the local LGBTQ+ nonprofit Love Your Labels, which is organizing the action. The statewide LGBTQ+ advocacy nonprofit MassEquality and the YWCA of Central Massachusetts are also noted as co-participants on the Instagram post.
According to NBC 10 Boston, the Diocese’s new policy states that students must “conduct themselves at school in a manner consistent with their biological sex” and that students “may not advocate, celebrate, or express same-sex attraction in such a way as to cause confusion or distraction in the context of Catholic school classes, activities, or events.”

A week after Diocese of Worcester Bishop Robert McManus released new policies about gender and sexuality in local Catholic schools, a local LGBTQ+ youth organization will lead a protest outside the diocese’s Worcester headquarters this week.
The nonprofit Love Your Labels, which provides art and fashion programs for LGBTQ+ young people in the area, called McManus’ new rules for Catholic school students “harmful anti-LGBTQ+ policies” in an Instagram post advertising the Wednesday protest.
“We encourage Queer folx and our allies to rally in support of our youth and their rights to live free and authentically. We know that affirming queer & trans young peoples saves lives. Let’s speak up and stand out!” the post said.
