After the rainbow flag that had flown for six years outside the Community Church in Durham, New Hampshire, was torn down three times earlier this year — its pole broken, and ultimately stolen — the church “purchased a new, iron, stronger pole and a vibrant new rainbow flag,” reports Seacoastonline.

“That flag will continue to wave for the gay teens among us who deserve our love and support,” Rev. Grishaw-Jones told Seacoast. “That flag will continue to fly for trans kids at UNH. That flag will continue to honor all the queercouples who’ve been married in our midst and come to us looking for friendship and encouragement.”

Reports Seacoast:

On Sunday, Dec. 11, the congregation will gather on Main Street at 11:15 a.m., to remount the flag and “celebrate the lively diversity that makes the congregation a shining example of inclusive spirit and affirming love.”

On the steps of the church, the congregation will also sing songs of joy and resistance, and “show the wider community its deep determination to continue creating safe space for all.” The public is welcome to attend the event.

With so much fear and anger stirred up by political and homophobic campaigns of misinformation over the past year, we heartily applaud acts of perseverance and love by communities like this one.
