FOLX Health, the Boston-based health care network for LGBTQ+ people in several US states — especially geared toward those in less LGBTQ-friendly places — has raised $30 million dollars to “support mental health, including new expert-led support groups that will begin this month,” according to the Boston Business Journal.
Reports the Journal:
The support groups will provide space for members to build community, FOLX said, but the company will also follow up with one-on-one consultations for an individualized approach. FOLX also has plans to launch an iOS and Android app that will allow for real-time emotional and behavioral health support.
FOLX Health launched in December 2020 as a provider designed specifically to meet the needs of the LGBTQ community. It provides virtual primary care, HRT, PrEP, care navigation and community through a diverse network of queer and trans-specialized providers.
“Prior to finding FOLX, 78% of our members did not have access to affirming healthcare and 71% actively avoided seeking care for fear of discrimination. It is our responsibility to provide offerings that enable folks to receive the care they need and deserve,” said Liana Douillet Guzmán, CEO of FOLX Health in a statement. “This funding is a testament to the importance of our mission, and we are honored that Lee and 7wireVentures are joining our efforts to create a more equitable healthcare system for the LGBTQIA+ community.”
The $30 million funding comes soon after FOLX Health released its new Virtual Healthcare platform, which offers consults and prescriptions for general health and sexual health, including access to birth control, treating infection, family planning, across the country.
