“The Quest Continues to Eradicate HIV/AIDS” That’s the theme of the upcoming 32nd Bayard Rustin Community Breakfast, an annual event of Fenway Health — the state’s leading provider of prevention and wellness services for people living with and at-risk of HIV/AIDS.
A hybrid in-person/virtual event this year, breakfast begins at 9:30 a.m. with the presentation starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 2. The in-person portion, taking place at JFK Presidential Library and Museum in Boston, has a capacity of 200 tickets and are available on a first come, first serve basis on the website March 1–15.
Delivering the keynote speech will be Maine State Senator Craig Hickman, the first Black lawmaker to serve in both chambers of the Pine Tree State legislature. Prior to being elected to office, Sen. Hickman was an AIDS educator at Fenway Health from 1993 to 1994 and a participant in the National Task Force on AIDS Prevention’s first Gay Men of Color Summit.
During the event, the BRCB committee will present the Bayard Rustin Award for courage to Spencer Collins IV, and award the Belynda A. Dunn Award for activism to the Healing Our Community Collaborative. Collins is a community activist and two-time NAACP Theater Award nominee. He recently received the Hollywood African Prestigious Award for his new film “Velvet Jesus.” The Healing Our Community Collaborative empowers women infected with, affected by or at risk for HIV by creating and maintaining a collaborative group of care providers and consumers.
