We could say that Kairos Dance Theater is a contemporary dance company, but that wouldn’t do it justice. The innovative, experimental performances staged by these performers defy description—except, perhaps, for one word: powerful. And every year, those powers are at their zenith when the group offers its annual performance to commemorate the exact arrival of World AIDS Day. Once again at midnight on Nov. 30, the dancers will leap, tumble, twist and turn their way through Medicine Wheel, a massive art installation of shrines and pedestals that has been erected at the Boston Center for the Arts to observe every World AIDS Day since 1992. Kairos will open the 24-hour vigil with yet another site-specific performance that is free and open to the public, inviting all to experience their power while paying tribute to those lost in the tragedy of an epidemic.
