Since early summer, Queer Choctaw-Cherokee artist Jeffrey Gibson’s large-scale installation, “Because Once You Enter My House It Becomes Our House,” has been gracing the grounds outdoors at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, Mass. The 21-foot-high, pyramid-like stepped form, which cribs its name from lyrics to the 1988 club anthem “Can You Feel It,” is just one example of Gibson exploring his indigenous heritage and queer identity through his work. Now that fall is upon us, the museum will open an additional indoor exhibition from Gibson, “Infinite Indigenous Queer Love.” Drawing on personal experience and popular culture, the show features collages, immersive displays and video work that continue to provide illuminating insight to a vital artist.
