Traditionally, Halloween weekend is often referred to as a high holiday in the LGBTQIA+ community. That makes it a perfect time, Rhode Island Pride just announced, to do something new and unique this year. So they’re hosting a day of activities to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Providence’s first Pride march and 20th anniversary of its first Illuminated Night Pride Parade, and the festivities culminate in a great, big Pride Halloween Street Jubilee. It all takes place on Saturday, Oct. 30, in Providence.
First, at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a family-friendly LGBTQIA+ Resource/Vendor Fair in Biltmore Park across from The Graduate Hotel in Providence. The fair will bring together local LGBTQIA+ friendly organizations for outreach, community building and service linkage.
At 5 p.m. marching groups will gather for the Pride Halloween Street Jubilee, with the procession stepping off at 6:30 p.m. This is different from their traditional parade; there’ll be street performers, bands, dance groups and everyone invited to join in the celebration in the streets. Halloween costumes are highly encouraged!
Finally, at 7:30 p.m. begin the Pride Jubilee Closing Ceremonies, featuring entertainment, speakers and performances at the BankNewport City Center, located at 2 Kennedy Plaza.
RI Pride will adhere to all safety guidelines and COVID protocols recommended by the CDC and the RI Department of Health, and encourages face masks at the gatherings.
