Outright Vermont’s Virtual Fire Truck Pull 2021 fundraising drive has begun. This year, the goal is $120,000, with all proceeds going to support the nonprofit’s LGBTQ youth programs.
Traditionally, participants of the annual event compete to pull a fire truck as far as they can through Downtown Burlington. This year though, Outright Vermont’s taking the event online, like they did in 2020, with participants recording “creative interpretations” from wherever they like and then submitting their videos to be judged.
Last year, the virtual version of the fire truck pull was so popular it drew participants across the country!
To make a donation supporting the event, or to join in the competition itself, go to Outright’s Virtual Fire Truck Pull 2021 webpage at OutrightVT.org. The deadline for all videos ins 11:59 p.m. on September 30; the donation deadline runs through October 4.
“Outright Vermont is the only statewide LGBTQ+ organization for youth. Why does that matter? Because frankly, we have so far to go,” says Outright VT in a press release for the event. ‘“51 weeks out of the year my identity is challenged, questioned, or ridiculed. And while I have worked my butt off to find allies and build connections at home, Outright will always be the place where, without question, I am completely accepted.’
“We believe that youth are the experts of their own experiences, and we are here to resource them to enact change in their communities, within systems, and most importantly, for themselves. Outright ensures LGBTQ+ youth know connection, friendship, supportive families, and welcoming communities.”
