Community Research Initiative’s 18th annual Summer Party will be take place from 4 to 5 p.m. this Saturday, August 7, right in your living room — or wherever you like to live-stream best.
At this year’s virtual event, the Dr. Cal Cohen Founder’s Award will go to the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod. Says CRI’s Executive Director Julie Marston, “CRI and AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod have worked side by side since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic to fight for the lives and dignity of people living with HIV.”
“Like CRI, ASGCC has had to evolve over the years to fill the needs of their community on the Cape and Islands. They are a vital support system for hundreds of people living with HIV, those struggling with addiction, and in the education and prevention of HIV, HCV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases,” Marsden says.
Along with the award presentation and updates on CRI’s groundbreaking research, there’ll be featured performances by Lakia, one of Boston’s top female impersonators, and Qya Cristál — the vocally gifted former Miss Gay USofA Massachusetts 2018 and winner of Boston Spirit’s own Drag Idol contest in 2019.
Since 1989, CRI has conducted life-changing clinical research and contributed critical building blocks of research data that resulted in the FDA approval of nearly all the currently available HIV medications. The organization has also explored other novel research endeavors, including their work with hepatitis C and by conducting survey research and bringing HIV and HCV clinical expertise into new settings, such as a substance abuse disorder clinic.
