This past Friday, MassEquality, the Bay State-wide grassroots LGBTQ advocacy organization, put out a call to show up for a counterprotest to an event in Auburn, Massachusetts aimed at promoting the spirit of insurrection that led to the riot at the US Capitol on January 6. The event was held by Super Happy Fun America, the same group that held a 2019 “straight pride march” in Boston.
MassEquality’s counterprotest took place at the corner of Southbridge and West streets in Auburn on Saturday with a strong, peaceful group of socially responsibly individuals gathering to make their message clear.
MassEquality stated in their press release that:
Super Happy Fun America, an organization whose tagline is, “it’s great to be straight” and whose ten-point plan includes language that harms the LGBTQ community, immigrants, and other marginalized communities. Their website includes lines such as: “We should seek only the best and the brightest immigrants from all nations according to the needs of the citizenry” “Remove all gender madness and anti-American revisionist history from studies” “Make normalcy normal again. Judeo-Christian values are under siege. It is time to right the ship”.
“While MassEquality supports the right of all Americans to lawfully assemble, we also support the right of counter demonstrators to gather and peacefully express concern about the motives or message of those assembled. As an organization that promotes lived equality for all members of our community, we cannot sit by idly and allow hate to go unchecked,” said Executive Director, Tanya Neslusan.
MassEquality is organizing a counter protest the day of the event, Patriots for Equity, at the corner of Southbridge Street and West Street in Auburn near the event in Auburn, Massachusetts. We will be standing with our partners to oppose groups that threaten our and other marginalized communities.
MassEquality is working in local communities throughout the commonwealth to ensure that lived equality is realized. Unfortunately, there are groups that are dedicated to taking us in the other direction. Our work is not done, and we will partner with local organizations and individuals to ensure that these groups don’t succeed.
