The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC) is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the 11th annual Professionals for Trans Rights business community fundraiser. Held virtually, the event starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16.
At the event, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley will be awarded one of two 2021 Carl Sciortino Trans Ally Awards and will speak about what being an ally means to her and her vision for supporting the trans community in the Bay State and beyond.
The second Sciortino award will go to Michael Cox of Black & Pink Massachusetts, the volunteer-fueled nonprofit working for abolition of the criminal punishment system, which disproportionately impacts LGBTQI people as well as those living with HIV.
The Inaugural Trans Activist Award will be presented posthumously to Jahaira DeAlto, a leader and chosen mother to many in the Mass. trans community. Gunner Scott, MTPC’s first executive director, will receive the Inaugural Trans Excellence Award.
The evening also features a performance by trans artist and activist Black Bear Extraordinaire, and Jayden Jamison emcees.
The event is free with donations encouraged. For more details and to RSVP for the event, go to masstcp.org.
