Trans Resistance MA invites supporters and community members to attend the second-annual Trans Resistance March & Vigil for Black Trans Lives on Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Attendees will gather in Nubian Square in Roxbury at 10:30 a.m. and march to Franklin Park Playstead in Dorchester.
In Franklin Park, Trans Resistance MA will feature local and national artists and performers, including DJs FrenchY and WhySham, Golden, Miss Dorian Blonch, Kweeng Doll, Haus of Snap, Amanda Shea, Medino Green, Brandie Blaze, Candace Persuasion, Teasha Boo, Lakia Mondale, Trap Beat Tranny, and more surprise guests. Athena Vaughn (she/her/hers), Founding Director of Trans Resistance MA , will deliver a keynote address, as will Chastity Bowick (she/her/hers), Executive Director of the Transgender Emergency Fund. In addition to performers and speakers, community sponsors will have table spaces reserved to share more information with attendees about their organizations.
At 3:45 pm, after the march and performances have concluded, Trans Resistance MA will hold a vigil to honor and remember transgender lives lost in 2021, including a focus on on the memory of Jahaira DeAlto Balenciaga (she/her/hers), a beloved member of our community who was murdered in April of this year. A space will be held for the memories of at least 26 other transgender people killed in 2021, and create a collaborative art piece in their honor.
