Boston Pride is hosting the six major candidates running for mayor of Boston in this fall’s election in a forum focusing on their positions and policies around issues facing the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC community.
The hour-and-45-minute forum begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 7. Sue O’Connell, political commentator at NECN, contributor at GBH and co-publisher of Bay Windows, is the moderator. The forum will be broadcast live via Zoom; click here to register. It will also be live-streamed on NBC10Boston.com, NECN.com and TelemundoNuevaInglaterra.com.
The candidate line-up includes: Community Leader John Barros, Boston City Councilor Andrea Campbell, Boston City Councilor Annissa Essaibi George, Acting Boston Mayor and City Council President Kim Janey, State Rep. Jon Santiago and Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu.
From the Boston Pride press release:
The candidates will each be given 15 minutes during a specific time slot to address the audience via a live webinar. The speaking order will be determined at the beginning of the program through a random selection process. Audience members are invited to submit questions during the event. The forum is an opportunity to learn about mayoral candidates’ positions on policies and issues facing the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC community.
The forum is part of the virtual programming presented by Boston Pride during this Pride season. Due to the pandemic, Boston Pride unfortunately had to cancel the in-person Pride Parade and Festival in June. …
During the past year, Boston Pride has been working on transforming the organization as a result of the board’s response to concerns raised by Black, Brown, transgender people and other members of the community. These concerns and our subsequent enlightenment compelled Boston Pride toward self-accountability and to examine the board and the entire organizational structure including programming of events for Pride 2021.
