Harbor to the Bay’s 19th Boston-to-Provincetown biking benefit kicks off with a free, online event this evening, Wednesday, May 19, at 7 p.m.
The annual H2B ride benefits four local HIV/AIDS care, prevention and research organizations — Fenway Health, AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, Community Research Initiative and AIDS Action. Since the ride began in 2003, it has raised more than six million dollars for these life-saving organizations.
H2B 2021 will remain primarily virtual again this year, but H2B organizers have reached out to the cities and towns along the 126-mile route and with federal permitting agencies. The majority of officials tell H2B organizers they’ll “most likely” issue permits but will reserve the right to rescind based on COVID protocols at the time of the ride. However it all pans out, safety measures, including staggered starts, will be in place.
Tonight’s online event is a great opportunity to learn more about this year’s plans, meet some of the beneficiaries, and connect with others interested in participating in this year’s ride — from riding to volunteering with the crew to supporting and cheering the riders on. Plus there’ll be some fun door prizes.
