With plans well underway to transform Hyde Park’s former William Barton Rogers Middle School into New England’s first apartment building geared for LGBTQ Seniors, LGBTQ Senior Housing is staffing up.
In early March, the nonprofit announced their first executive director, community activist and civil rights attorney Gretchen Van Ness. And last week, they appointed Kristen Porter their gerontology advisor.
“I have known Kristen Porter and followed her groundbreaking work for decades,” said the nonprofit’s President and Board Chair Aileen Montour. “Her service as Gerontology Advisor to our organization guarantees that we will be able to offer the best programming and support to every resident in our community. With Kristen on our team, we look forward to becoming the national model for affordable, LGBTQ-welcoming senior housing.”
Well-known in the LGBTQ community for her pioneering work and leadership, Porter is a clinician, former healthcare nonprofit executive director, social entrepreneur, and gerontologist. Her research on resilience in LGBTQ older adults, and those aging with HIV, has been widely published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to Porter’s appointment, the nonprofit named three new board members:
Allison Bayer of West Roxbury joined the board after a distinguished career in healthcare operations, technology and management, including serving as executive vice president and CEO of the Cambridge Health Alliance and board chair for a local PACE (Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) organization that served over 150 individuals, providing a full range of services to adults over age 55.
Tej Nuthulaganti of Boston currently works for the Clinton Health Access Initiative in Boston as Senior Director of Health Workforce and Infrastructure Programs – Universal Health Coverage. In this role, Nuthulaganti is responsible for health workforce and infrastructure strategy development and resource mobilization for programs in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.
Jarred Johnson of Somerville currently serves as the Executive Director of TransitMatters in Boston and is the former Real Estate Project Manager for the Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation. He is a Founding Board Member of Abundant Housing Massachusetts, a statewide pro-housing organization, and a Founding Member of Dorchester Growing Together, a pro-housing neighborhood group.
