There’s an old saying that “history is written by the winners”—and given the entrenched systems that privilege them, that means straight white men have been able to write a whole lot of history. Help redress the imbalance by taking part in the very first “Wikipedia Edit-a-thon” hosted by The History Project, a vital nonprofit that documents and archives New England’s LGBTQ history. In conjunction with National Women’s Day, the organization will provide a Zoom room full of participants with all the background materials they need to add and edit online articles about influential Maine poet Sarah Orne Jewett (in photograph), pioneering Massachusetts state representative Elaine Noble, maverick Black feminist Beverly Smith and many other queer womxn whose stories need to be shared and preserved for all of herstory. (Plus, it’ll be a fun way to socialize with fellow biography buffs!)
