Specially created for Valentine’s Day 2021, the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus is releasing a new video that celebrates lovers, friends and everyone looking for love.
The 15-minute video, “Reuben’s Picks for Valentine’s Day,” features three past BGMC performances curated by Music Director Reuben M. Reynolds III — “A Love That Will Never Grow Old,” from the film “Brokeback Mountain,” ABBA’s tribute to enduring friendship “The Way Old Friends Do,” and “Living For Love” Madonna’s rousing anthem of rebounding from heartbreak.
“Love comes in many different forms and flavors, as LGBTQ people well know,” says Music Director Reuben M. Reynolds III.
“Given how the pandemic has separated and isolated so many people, we wanted to make this Valentine’s Day more inclusive by not focusing exclusively on romantic love, but also on friendship and the empowerment that comes with not giving up on love, even if someone has broken your heart,” Reynolds says. “The reality is that sometimes Cupid’s arrows just don’t land well.”
“Reuben’s Picks for Valentine’s Day” is the latest in a series of videos released by BGMC since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the chorus to halt live performances in March 2020. BGMC has since launched BGMC@Home, a curated collection of new and archival digital performances that includes “Up on the Housetop,” “From Our Home to Yours: Everything Possible,” “Pride 2020 Selections by Music Director Reuben Reynolds III,” “Black Lives Matter,” “Born This Way: Virtual Boston Gay Men’s Chorus, “Reuben’s Picks, Fourth of July,” “Reuben’s Picks for Halloween,” and the web series “Celebrity Spotlight.” BGMC Online also features highlights from BGMC’s archive of more than 400 video performances that are viewed more than 1.5 million times annually. Playlists include BGMC’s most popular videos from YouTube, its most recent Pride concert titled “God Save the Queens,” its most recent spring concert, titled “Raise You Up,” and playlists from its tour of the Middle East in 2015 and tour of South Africa in 2018.
