With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the Boston nonprofit Community Servings is making it easier than ever to put a pie on everyone’s table — especially welcome news in this holiday season challenged by the pandemic. It’s a great way to treat your holiday table with gourmet deliciousness and provide much-needed funds to feed critically ill neighbors at the same time.
To ensure health and safety and give longstanding, generous bakers and restaurant partners a reprieve during COVID-19, they’ve streamlined the process for 2020.
All pies will be scratch-made by Community Servings’ kitchen and a local gourmet pie bakery. This year, they’re offering their two best-sellers: apple pie and pecan pie — baked fresh to serve at your Thanksgiving dinner table.
Once baked and cooled, the pies will be boxed up, sealed and transported untouched directly to sites across eastern Massachusetts by professional movers. Pies will be available for pick-up at regional locations two days before Thanksgiving.
A $30 donation gets you a gourmet baked pie with all proceeds going to feed a critically ill neighbor for one whole week. Get the details at pieinthesky.org.
“It’s a scary time for everybody, but imagine being immunocompromised and food insecure during this,” says Ryan Levasseur, director of communications for Community Servings, told Boston Spirit, adding that in a significant number of cases, Community Servings meals actually provide for entire families. “The more people we can help, the better.”
