In 2020, we binge-watched a whole lot of Netflix content and podcasts — and most of the stories that stuck with us had one thing in common: They were about the power to create change. And that’s exactly what you’ll find in “Cured” and “Queering the Script,” two documentaries in the Bright Lights Film Series that will be streamed for free by ArtsEmerson. “Cured” uses previously unseen archival footage to tell the story of how activists fought to have homosexuality removed from the American Psychiatric Association’s manual of mental illnesses in the 1970s. “Queering the Script,” meanwhile, is a look at how social-media fan campaigns have been making a positive impact on representation of queer women in film and television.
