LGBTQ Nation has named Sudbury, Massachusetts Moms KC and Lena Currie to their short-list of “Hometown Hero of the Year” nominees — just five! — for making a big difference in the lives of three little brothers.

You can read about all five nominees — along with nominees in other categories like “Small Business Owner of the Year” or “Newsmaker of the Year” and cast your votes for them here.

As LGBTQ Nation describes the story in their “Heroes” line-up of nominees, announced this month:

The Sudbury, Massachusetts couple became foster parents to Joey at 18 months old through Children’s Friend, a Seven Hills Organization affiliate. They began fostering him in March 2017, and soon after were informed that Noah, six-weeks-old at the time, was also in need of a home. A month later, they learned that another child – Logan, born in between Noah and Joey – was in foster care as well.

The Curries brought both into their home, and finalized their adoption [of Noah and Logan; they’d adopted Joey in 2018] on National Adoption Day 2019, making them a family of five (with three kids under the age of four!) under one roof.

“It was our gut-feeling” to adopt all three upon learning from Children’s Friend that Joey had two siblings, KC told LGBTQ Nation when they originally covered the story back in 2019. “We were going to end up saying yes because keeping the brothers together was really important to us. When they’re older and have questions, they’ll have each other to lean on and experience that ride together.”

Says LGBTQ Nation, their “Hometown Hero of the Year award honors the person who inspired the nation by making a difference in their local community. This person knows that no action is too small and rolls their sleeves up to create change in their communities, whether that’s a neighborhood or a metropolitan city. They know that standing alone is hard, but sometimes necessary, and they have found success in bringing light and positivity to the LGBTQ community.”
