Communities throughout New England during this socially distanced summer have come up with many creative ways to safely celebrate Pride during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the LGBTQ community in Maine is doing so state-wide throughout the month of August.
The plan is for Mainers from all over the state to find signs of Pride in their own neighborhoods or on road trips — they can even download a map with LGBTQ sites of interest to create their own itineraries — take photos and share them online. And they can even win prizes.
The photos have started rolling in from all across the state. They’re fun to look at and inspiring for Mainers to get out there and take Pride all over their state.
Hosting it all is a team of LGBTQ organizations, from support and advocacy groups to Pride organizations, called Pride Across Maine.
Here’s how they describe it:
Throughout the month of August we invite you (all of you!) to post Pride themed photos and selfies to your page and tag them with #pridepassport2020. Make sure it’s set to Public (viewable) so we can track it!
For each photo you post and tag with #pridepassport2020 you will receive a chance to win prizes. Oh yeah!
We know you’ll be on the road soaking up the Maine summer, and have compiled a map of locations for you to visit. These locations were generated by the Pride Across Maine steering committee, and they have significance to the LGBTQ+ community. But, they’re optional and by no means exhaustive. Find a place, show your pride, snap a photo, and post to our page. That place could be your backyard, as long as you’re showing your Pride 🙂
The Pride Across Maine partners include Portland Pride, Bangor Pride, Pride L/A (Lewiston and Auburn), Central Maine Pride, Northern Maine Pride, Downiest Rainbow Alliance, Bar Harbor Pride, Dyke March Maine, Hallowell Pride Alliance, the Health Equity Alliance, MaineTrans Net and EqualityMaine.
