Community Research Initiative’s annual summer party may not be hosted at Provincetown’s Red Inn overlooking beautiful Cape Cod Bay as in year’s before due to COVID-19, but you can still support CRI’s critical life-saving work at CRI’s Virtual Summer Party in 2020.
The event takes place online from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 8. For tickets, go to the event reservation page (on the crine.org website).
Festivities include the 2020 Dr. Cal Cohen Founder’s Award presentation, going to David Drake, artistic director of Provincetown Theater and Obie Award-winning actor of the play “The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me.” Drake also wrote the play, one of the iconic theater pieces from the AIDS era about a gay man’s journey of self-discovery through the crisis. CRI’s virtual summer party this year will also feature performances by Lakia Mondale and Lilly Rose Valore, and an opportunity to hear more about CRI’s latest cutting-edge research.
“During these unprecedented times, CRI has managed to extend coverage and reduce barriers to much needed care for our clients and study participants,” notes the event’s press release. “However, due to many people being laid off or furloughed during this time we are seeing an increase in the number of clients with no insurance. Your sponsorship will allow us to stay on top of the increased demand on our programs.”
Since 1989, CRI has conducted life-changing clinical research and contributed critical building blocks of research data that resulted in the FDA approval of nearly all the currently available HIV medications. CRI’s researchers have presented key, groundbreaking data at national and international conferences, disseminating study results for these HIV drugs to researchers, advocates, medical providers, and people living with HIV across the world. As a result, nearly all people with HIV who have access to these drugs can live a normal life span.
