Boston Pride kicks off its 50th annual Boston Pride Week virtual celebrations with two events live-streaming today, Friday, June 5.

First, join the traditional rainbow flag–raising ceremony at City Hall online at noon. And this evening, log onto the live-streaming of a Boston Public Library talk with Harvard historian Dr. Eric Cervini, author of “The Deviant’s War: The Homosexual vs. The United States of America,” starting at 6 p.m.

Plus: The 2020 Boston Pride Guide, all-digital for the first time this year, is being released at noon today. To subscribe, go to bostonprideguide.org.

Here’s the scoop on today’s events:

2020 Virtual Flag Raising Ceremony, Friday, June 5, at noon — Join Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, State Rep. Liz Malia, Boston Pride’s Malcolm Carey and other speakers at the official opening on Boston Pride Week 2020. Davron S. Monroe will sing the National Anthem, and the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus will also perform.

Davron S. Monroe is a Boston-based, award-winning singer and actor with vocal talents that run the gamut from opera to musical theater, gospel to jazz, and everything else in between.  Davron is the 2019 recipient of The Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Musical performance in “Breath and Imagination,” the story of Roland Hayes, African-American classic concert artist (who was also a Boston-based artist in the later years of his life).

For details on the flag-raising ceremony, including links to the live steam, go to bostonpride.org/flag/.

Virtual Author Talk on “The Deviant’s War: The Homosexual vs. The United States of America,” Friday, June 5, 6–7:30 p.m. — Harvard and Cambridge-trained historian Dr. Eric Cervini discusses his book on the secret history of the fight for gay rights that began a generation before Stonewall. Plus the discussion will be hosted by the charming Southern belle, Miss Rhonda Bout — crowned Royal Gender Bender of Boston Pride 2011. And audience Q&A follows the talk.

Pre-registration to access the live stream is required. For more, go to bostonpride.org/author-talk-the-deviants-war/.
