Due to COVID-19 (coronavirus) concerns, The Theater Offensive’s March 12 “Beyond the Stage” benefit event has been postponed.
The event is the premier annual fundraiser of Boston’s LGBTQ youth theater program, the longest running such company in the US.
When the event is rescheduled, the 2020 True Colors Champion Award will go to Myron Miller of the Herman and Frieda L. Miller Foundation.
“Miller is the trustee of the Herman and Frieda L. Miller Foundation, a charitable foundation with the mission to empower disadvantaged communities in Boston and throughout Massachusetts,” American Theater reported.
TTO’s 2020 Outstanding Youth Leader Award will go to Chioke Waithe-Howard, who “started as a True Colors member in 2010, and has since become an integral part of the growth and development of True Colors programming,” reports American Theater.
Guests will also meet the TTO’s True Colors OUT Youth Theater members along with the program’s key supporters, and will be “treated to presentations that will demonstrate how the community’s generous support impacts the lives of those that the company serves.”
This year’s benefit celebrates TTO’s 25th anniversary and launches its first-ever True Colors National Tour.

True Colors’ mission is to “transform real-life stories of queer youth into powerful performances and workshops, based on their lived experiences of topics such as bullying, homelessness, coming out, and discrimination. By touring to local schools and community groups, these performances combat bigotry, hate, and discrimination. True Colors is a safe space for all youth, where they can explore their identities and build key creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem solving skills. True Colors provides direct service to 100 youth annually and reaches an average of 4,000 audience members each year.”
